Garfield High School and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) (participating children), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve California's high standards.
This Home/School Compact is in effect during school year 2022 - 2023.

Required Home/School Compact provisions

School Responsibilities
Garfield High School
will:

  1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables participating children to meet California's student academic achievement standards as follows: Garfield High School is WASC accredited and provides only High-Quality Teachers and instruction. Students all pursue the regular district approved diploma options.
  2. Hold parent-teacher conferences during Open House and Academic Recognition Events and as needed to optimize student support. This compact may be discussed as it relates to the individual child's achievement.
  3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their child's progress. Report cards are distributed quarterly and progress reports provide work-in-progress grades at the mid-quarter point (the fourth week). Additionally, parents may inquire about their student's progress at any time; Garfield maintains an up-to-date grade tracking system.
  4. Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Garfield maintains an open door policy for parents and guardians. Conferences and appointments can be scheduled by the secretary and/or counseling secretary.
  5. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child's class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows:

Parents are welcome to participate in school activities and shadow their child. District policies and procedures are followed to ensure the safety of staff and students.
